I believe art can be utilized as an avenue for communication and the expression of ideas. As a visual writer, I develop social commentaries that focus on environmental issues. I am interested in the history, folklore, and mythology that intertwines science with social narrative. Genetic Toolbox Series: The story of biotechnology is full of intrigue and mystery. By taking a closer look at the processes of biotechnology I have developed a creative interpretation of the genes used in splicing new DNA into plants. My intent is to create public awareness of these processes and let the viewer know that the old saying "We are what we eat" is very pertinent with genetically modified food. Each sculpture is subtitled with an educational description defining the actual function of the gene. Each sculpture was developed by accentuating the unique characteristics and mysterious qualities of the certain gene, to express that these processes are unusual and worth paying attention to.
